DIY Relaxing Magnesium Foot Soak Recipe

Magnesium relaxes your body and mind. That's why Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) baths are so popular.

Here's a quick summary of how to make an easy stress-relieving foot bath.

Doing your foot bath in the evening helps reduce stress and improve sleep.

DIY Foot Soak Recipe

1. Choose a container.

Use a large bowl or dishpan big enough for both feet. (I use a plastic dishpan dedicated to foot soaks. Don’t use an electric foot spa unless the manufacturer confirms it can handle magnesium salts or flakes.)

2. Add warm water.

Fill the container with a couple of inches of warm water — enough to cover your feet up to the ankles. It doesn’t need to be extremely hot; just comfortably warm so it stays pleasant as it cools.

3. Add your magnesium source.

Stir with your hand to dissolve.

4. Soak for 20 minutes or longer.

Sit back and relax — I like to place a towel under the dishpan and watch TV while soaking. My footbaths often end up lasting 30–40 minutes simply because it feels so soothing.

Adding Essential Oils to Your Footbath

You can make your magnesium foot soak even more relaxing by adding calming essential oils. Add a few drops of essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil (such as jojoba or fractionated coconut oil), then mix into the water — or blend the essential oil into your flakes or salts before adding them to the bath.
