10 Calming Affirmations to Reduce Anxiety Naturally
Anxiety can sap your energy and distract your mind. It can get in the way of your health and happiness.
Positive affirmation statements can be used throughout your day to calm and relax your anxiety naturally, and cheer you on through challenges big and small.
This post includes 10 affirmations that can add calming thoughts to your day to help reduce your anxiety and decrease your stress.
What are Affirmations?
Affirmations are a type of positive self-talk used to help improve your mood and confidence. They can also help reinforce actions that you want to take.
Anxious or stressed people tend to be overwhelmed with negative self-talk.
Ruminating about negative thoughts makes anxiety worse.
Positive affirmations can help turn that around. Thinking positive thoughts can not only stop the negative, but also redirect your mind to encouraging uplifting thoughts that improve your ability to deal with stress.
Affirmations can also reinforce ways of being that you are working toward becoming.
For example, if you say to yourself, "With each breath, I feel calmer, more relaxed, more self-confident," you are making a stronger and stronger association between noticing your breath and feeling calm, relaxed, and self-confident. Using the affirmation throughout your day makes it easier to remember to use your breath to relax and reassure yourself in stressful times.
How to Use Affirmations
The goal of using affirmations is for them to influence your thoughts, emotions, and actions on both the conscious and subconscious level.
Affirmations are typically repeated throughout your day. You might target 2 to 4 times per day as a typical goal for using your affirmations.
Your affirmations can be said out loud, written down, or simply thought of.
You might write your affirmations on sticky notes or notecards and place them around the house or around your work station.
It can be particularly powerful to say, write, read, or think your affirmations shortly after you wake up and right before you go to sleep. These are times with your subconscious mind is particularly available to take in the suggestions found in the affirmations.
